This very beautiful cake is strikingly different from those of other mountains in the perfectly balanced aroma of its bright leaves. Its flavour still possesses the fruity hues that characterise the teas of this new harvest, here with fragrant notes of cooked pears and marjoram, yet it is neat and harmonious, and such is the case with all pu'er teas from Youle mountain.

Youle is situated almost at the center of Xishuangbanna prefecture, nearby the banks of Lancang river. It is part of the ancient pu'er tea mountains, from which it gets its complexity and roundness. This strategic terroir gives Youle its perfect balance, yet each new harvest adds a special twist to its impartial taste. This year, abundant rains gave a more mature and fruity taste to the leaves, and while never exceeding in sweetness or astringency, this tea shows a lively frizziness on the tongue, which sweetens and softens in the aftertaste. After few moments, while still contemplating the botanical aroma that lingers in the palate, an unexpected freshness comes to the throat, leaving a balsamic taste of mint. This rich variety of flavours comes from a very young harvest, and it may therefore be expected that the future developments in taste will be still finer than what we can now figure.

This cake pays homage to the elephants that inhabit this land and are revered by local minorities, who often see these majestic animals as sacred. The leaves we used to produce this cake always come from the hands of Zi Bulu and his wife Zhouji, who hand-picked the young buds and the first apical leaves in spring 2022, and handed them to us like a precious heritage, that we pressed by stone in April 2022, waiting to deliver them to the hands of those who will taste its ripe aromas.
Zi Bulu and Zhouji also take an active part in preserving and protecting the land in Yunnan and its animals, and collaborate with a sanctuary for elephants in Youle, to which the land that gifted us this cake truly belongs.
